PECHAKUCHA NIGHT

07/16/11, (8:00-10:00 pm): Noguchi Plaza, Japanese American Community and Cultural Center (JACCC)

•  PechaKucha Night was devised in Tokyo in February 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public.  It has turned into a massive celebration, with events happening in hundreds of cities around the world, inspiring creatives worldwide. Drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of conversation (“chit chat”), it rests on a presentation format that is based on a simple idea: 20 images x 20 seconds.  It’s a format that makes presentations concise, and keeps things moving at a rapid pace.  For more information on Pecha Kucha:  http://www.pecha-kucha.org/

•  LTDW’s Pecha Kucha night will feature a variety of presenters from Japan and Los Angeles speaking on the relating to “Future City”.

Noguchi Plaza Film Screening of My Neighbor Totoro (Friday Evening)

Walt Disney Home Entertainment Presents A Studio Ghibli Film, MPAA: G. © Disney © Studio Ghibli.

07/15/11, (8:30-10:00 pm): Noguchi Plaza, Japanese American Community and Cultural Center (JACCC)

•  Enjoy an evening outdoors beneath the stars. In collaboration with the JACCC, LTDW will be hosting an Outdoor Evening Film Screening of My Neighbor Totoro that is open to the public. This outdoor film screening offers visitors and locals a chance to watch a few films while enjoying the open air and unique setting of Little Tokyo.

My Neighbor Totoro depicts themes critical to contemporary Japanese culture and emphasizes the importance of how tradition coexists with modernity. The film’s ability to embrace the real with fantasy, urban and rural, humans with nature continuously illustrates a cohesive, beautiful juxtaposition of two opposing worlds—the world as it is and the world that is to come.
